I live in the boston area. I do not own a house or condo. I want to get a used harley, and I believe that I will be limited to parking my motorcycle on the street. Where else can I park a motorcycle at in boston? I am wondering if getting lowjack, a disk brake lock, and an alarm will be sufficient safety to parking my bike on the street in boston during the spring and summer months? The Boston Common is a popular public park in the city that is found right next to the public garden in the heart of Boston City. The Boston Common is also known as the oldest city park in the United States and dates back to the 17th century when it was used as a pasture. The park is which is nearly 50 acres in size is the starting point of the Freedom Trail and acts as the anchor of the “Emerald Necklace” which is a chain of interconnected parks and greens in Boston that encompasses nearly all of the city’s neighborhoods.

From a historical perspective the Boston Common has been used for a variety of purposes; such as being a place for cattle to graze in the 1630’s to being used a military camp by the British during the 18th century. The Common was later used as a place for public executions, where criminals were hung from the numerous oaks in the park a proper gallows was also constructed here in 1769. The park has also served as a place for gatherings and protests, the first of which was in 1713 when a group of angry Bostonians protested against food shortages later during the 1960’s large groups of college students regularly gathered here to protest against the Vietnam War. Notable personalities such a Martin Luther King and Pope John Paul II have addressed formal gatherings here.

Today the park serves as a place of public recreation and as a venue for concerts, meetings and soft ball games. The large artificial lake is also a great place to relax by feeding the water fowl or by taking a ride on a swan boat. The historical attractions here include the Massachusetts State House that is seen on the northern edge of the Common it is the seat of government for the state.

Another interesting attraction here is the Soldiers and Sailors monument which was erected here in 1877 in tribute to the gallant armed forces of the United States. The Robert Gould Shaw monument is another civil war relic that commemorates the 54th regiment which was the first “free” black regiment of the Union Army. The Brewer fountain is an exact replica of the one designed for the World Exposition in Paris in 1855 it has intricately carved figures of Neptune, Galatea, Amphitrite and Acis.

Located in the centre of the city the Boston Common is not far way from Boston hotels. A variety of accommodation options can be seen among the hotels in Boston and the hotels near the Boston Common are no exception.

Living near Fenway Park is a dream for some people. To others, it merely means being near the center of Boston. No matter your preference for baseball, the Fenway, Kenmore area has a lot to offer, including access to public transportation, restaurants and bars, universities and colleges, museums, parks and more.

Speaking of the public transportation. There’s a little bit of construction going on.

The dramatic, giant-arched bus canopy at the center of the square is fully glassed-up. Commuters can now get from there to the train station without risk of impaling themselves on construction materials. In the station, handsome steel-and-glass enclosures surround stairs to the platforms. Above ground, paved walkways guide bus riders safely out of the terminal and onto the streets.

All of the traffic lanes heading into the square are open, and cars move smoothly, even on a busy Monday afternoon. The sidewalks – and the intersection of Commonwealth, Beacon, and Brookline – are paved in handsome brick. Trees and grassy islands have appeared.

Kenmore is still rough around the edges. The ground is dug up in places. The spot where an elevator will carry people from the bus stop to the subway station is still a hole (the elevator is due to arrive next month). Frowsy old bus shelters squat beneath the flashy new one. Awkward signs, some of them handwritten, direct commuters to the B Line or beg their pardon for the inconvenience.

But if you can get past these distractions, the Fenway area of Boston is a great place to call home.

Anyway, the Fenway area is so named because it used to be covered with fens. A “fen” is “low land covered wholly or partly with water unless artificially drained”. This area of Boston (like much of the rest of Boston) used to be either marshes or under water entirely until it was either filled in or drained. Actually, on a side note, you might be interested to look at maps of Boston from the 1600s and 1700s to see how much of Boston used to be underwater before they filled it all in- hence parts called “Fenway” and “Back Bay”. So, the Fenway part of Boston used to be fens (and parts of it still are).
